Stimulating healing using pressure points in the feet.
Reflexology is a non-intrusive therapy, based on the theory that different points on the feet – reflex points – correspond with different areas of the body. This natural therapy uses pressure massage on the reflex points to bring about healthy changes in the corresponding organs or systems. Its gentle nature makes it particularly valuable in aiding recovery after illness, during pregnancy and for the elderly.
Reflexologists work holistically with their clients on an individual basis, and often work alongside other healthcare practitioners to promote better health for their clients.
The theory is that reflexology helps the body to restore its balance naturally. Usually, after a treatment, your tension may be reduced and you might feel relaxed. You might also notice yourself sleeping better and find your mood and sense of wellbeing improving.
There are some limited studies that show reflexology is an excellent way of releasing stress and tension. It may also help to support healthy digestion and can be safely used if you suffer with digestive problems such as indigestion, feeling bloated or any symptoms aggravated by stress and tension.
This therapy may also help to encourage energy to flow more freely throughout your body.
What to expect…
Your reflexologist will start with a detailed consultation, asking you about any particular symptoms or concerns. You will then recline on a couch while they work on your feet.
By focusing on specific reflex points that map out areas of your body, your reflexologist will aim to stimulate healing in the associated organs, glands and structures, leaving you feeling relaxed.
For certain conditions, treatments can be more effective when combined with another therapy. Ask your practitioner for their recommendation.
